Patty Blee’s husky voice, confessional songs and rootsy sound have earned numerous comparisons to the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Patty Griffin and Shawn Colvin. After years developing her distinctive phrasing and rhythmic guitar style playing lounges and casinos along the Jersey Shore, in 2002 she recorded her solo debut. There’s no better way to introduce this rising new talent than with the release of Patty’s well-regarded Treasure Records cd, “DISGUISE.” Nationally distributed through CDBABY, the album is 13 tracks of pure heart and soul, memorably solidified by a strong and unmistakable voice that’s surrounded by some of the finest roots-rock musicians around. “DISGUISE” is such a pleasant surprise — a refreshing look at a genre that increasingly knows no bounds. If you can imagine Sheryl Crow meeting Bonnie Raitt in a corner bar as they kick back a few cold ones with Lucinda Williams, then you’ll have no problem envisioning PATTY BLEE pulling up a stool and fitting right in.

A pivotal stepping stone in Patty’s run of success was her performance at the 2002 Appel Farm Music and Arts Festival (Elmer, NJ) alongside the likes of Jackson Browne and Jonatha Brooke. Patty has appeared on the renowned “Folk Show” on WXPN/Philadelphia with Gene Shay and was selected to perform at the NEMO Music Showcase and Conference in Boston and N2MC in Nashville. NEMO also included Patty’s “Right Between You and Me,” from “DISGUISE”, for inclusion on its compilation CD. GuitarGirls.com, which named PATTY BLEE its Artist of the Month in April, has now selected another “DISGUISE” track, “I Believe In This Love,” for inclusion on its Compilation CD, which benefits AIDS organizations worldwide through the Mercury Phoenix Trust, set up by the surviving members of Queen in memory of Freddie Mercury.

Recorded and co-produced by Randy Friel (BeauSoleil) and Richard Crooks at Scullville Studios and mixed by legendary recording engineer Shelly Yakus (John Lennon, Tom Petty), “DISGUISE” is sure to have a permanent spot in any aficionado’s collection. The stellar group of talent behind Patty includes Bob Dylan band regulars Larry Campbell on guitar and Tony Garnier on bass, with Richard Crooks (Bob Dylan, Dr. John) on drums. John Hammond Jr. makes a guest appearance on harmonica as well as Augie Meyers (Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Doug Sahm) on accordion. Even violinist/vocalist Soozie Tyrell (Bruce Springsteen, Shawn Colvin, Sheryl Crow) lends a hand!

Patty has developed a distinctive guitar style full of bass lines and grooves, and has intertwined memorable melodies into mid and uptempo songs of love and longing on “DISGUISE”. A wide range of influences are evident — blues, folk, celtic, country, and rock. This album is just the beginning of a long road for a woman with so much to give.

The Atlantic City Press said the album displayed, “wonderfully written and crafted songs.” and was chosen 17 in their list of the top 50 CD releases for the year.
